These are the caps that the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will wear on Friday for the game marking the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. Though New Era undoubtedly put a few modern comforts into the recreation of the hats, they're based on the same caps that the two teams wore during the first game at the ballpark on April 20, 1912.
The Red Sox version, which we've seen before, is all white and decidedly no-frills. Boston always looks like a collection of house painters, ice cream men or — in the case of Dustin Pedroia — the young flat-brimmed punk loitering outside the Cinnabon at your local mall when they wear these.
The Yankees version is a little more familiar to the modern day baseball fan, though the relatively unfamiliar color combination reminds me of something the young flat-brimmed punk at your local mall would wear while standing in line at Sbarro.
The two teams will also be wearing throwback uniforms, though the modern versions have yet to surface. But if they're anything like what's portrayed below, I hope they include those sweet high socks. They remind me of something an old crank like myself would wear while enjoying a nice round of pudding before bedtime.
