Yasiel Puig’s highs and lows against the Giants — his night in GIFs

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig showed both of his sides in Monday night's 3-1 win against the rival San Francisco Giants — the electric bat that has Dodgers fans drooling and the overzealousness that comes with being so young and inexperienced.

Puig started the game out with an opposite-field, first-inning homer, continuing to pound the ball early (he's hitting .688 with two homers in the first inning this season). After Monday, he's also the first player in MLB history, according to Elias Sports Bureau, with 34 hits and seven homers in his first 20 games.

Then came a couple of gaffes. Like this "slide" into third base. In true Puig fashion, he thought about just running home afterward. Alas, he was out.

Another oops came on this Buster Posey fly ball, which was eventually ruled a hit. Either way, it's not going to make Puig's defensive highlight reel.

All was forgotten in the eighth inning, though, when Puig came up with Nick Punto on third in a 1-1 game. Puig singled in the go-ahead run, before the Dodgers added another.

Sure, Puig had two gaffes, but he also had three hits in his first Giants-Dodgers game. That's as many as the rest of his team had. For that, he gets a salute.

Baseball season's in full swing. Don't miss a thing.
