There were a handful of acrobatic outfield catches in baseball Sunday — like Sam Fuld leaping at the wall, Brandon Barnes laying out, Chris Denorfia giving us this airborne grab, Domonic Brown doing a little home-run thieving and Matt Joyce doing his best Willie Mays impression.
But only one guy managed to catch a ball twice. That's New York Mets outfielder Juan Lagares, who makes an impressive catch falling forward on a Jeanmar Gomez liner to centerfield. As momentum propels him, the ball pops out of Lagares' glove.
Watch as his head pops up to eye the ball again before he dives forward to catch it. That's a tremendous combo of instinct and concentration.
The Mets lost the game 3-2 to the Pittsburgh Pirates, but Lagares and his circus catch still won play of the day.
Baseball is back. Don't miss anything.
