Hey, Matt Kemp isn't the only baseball star who can have aw-shucks moments with fans. We dare you to not grin while watching this video of New York Mets star David Wright giving a fan a hug after Monday's 2-1 victory over the Yankees. Look at how excited the kid is.
But there's even more to the story: The fan, identified as Max Rubin by NJ.com, had told David Wright to hit a home run before he came to bat in seventh inning. Wright did just that, and tied the game at 1.
A kid telling a baseball star to hit a home run probably happens every day, but what happened afterward doesn't. Not only did Wright fulfill the request, but it was a key moment in the game for the Mets, who eventually won on an eighth inning single by Daniel Murphy.
The embrace between Max and the Mets captain after the game is what seals the deal, though. The kid looks happier about the Mets win than Wright does. That's not a knock on Wright, but instead a reminder how much these bigger-than-life moments and the athletes who provide them, mean to young fans.
