Joba Chamberlain shaved his mustache, so now, we weep. The mustache captivated us, as a baseball community for many, many days — roughly picture day 2013 until Sunday. We barely knew it, but we dreamed of its possibilities. Many of us never saw it in person, but we felt like it was our best friend.
It was a bright spot in a preseason that was mean to the New York Yankees. Injuries piled up, but we could always count on Joba's 'stache to make us smile — Yankee fan or otherwise. It traveled to West Point. It met The Big Show. It made him look like a movie star. Its individual hairs even were given a name. A full life, indeed.
Our first thought? He saw Bryan Harper's mustache and couldn't go on. Alas, that is not the Yankee way. In fact, Chamberlain gave reporters this explanation for his new whisker-less ways:
"It wasn't doing us any good, so I got rid of it."
Sometimes, as Joba Chamberlain has taught us, one has to sacrifice his own stellar style for the betterment of something bigger than himself. For his team. While Joba has moved on, we on The Stew will remember his mustache and its happier times:

And now:
Farewell, good friend.
Baseball is back. Don't miss anything.
