Led by AT&T Park, ballparks dominate Facebook’s list of highest ‘check-ins’ in 2012

San Francisco's AT&T Park received the third-most "check-ins" on Facebook in 2012, the social media site reported on Wednesday, and major-league ballparks accounted for seven spots on the top 10 "most checked in" list.

It was a good year to be a San Francisco Giants fan, so it's no wonder why so many people were eager to tell their friends they were at the biggest show in town. It probably also didn't hurt that AT&T Park is located in the middle of the most tech-centric city in the country.

The ballpark by the bay trailed only Times Square and Disneyland in number of check-ins. The list was rounded out (in order) by Yankee Stadium, Rangers Ballpark, Fenway Park, Dodger Stadium, Universal Studios Florida, Wrigley Field and Angel Stadium. It shouldn't come as a surprise that baseball holds so many spots given the sport's long schedule and ballparks that are made up of tens of thousands of seats. Still, Major League Baseball has to like seeing that attending a game still holds a lot of social capital among young people and is worth bragging about on Facebook.
