Bryce Harper's "that's a clown question, bro" craze was born in a Toronto clubhouse on a late evening last week, the child of a pious Mormon baseball phenom and an overeager local reporter in search of a sudsy soundbyte. It died sometime on Tuesday afternoon after it was uttered by a 72-year-old politician in response to a question about immigration reform.
It was one week old.

OK, allegations of meme murder aside, it's actually kind of cool to see Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) pulling out Harper's hot catchphrase during a Capitol Hill media session. Like 19-year-old Washington Nationals outfielder, Reid is a Mormon from Nevada and it's great to see a member of Congress demonstrating a proficiency in baseball knowledge that goes past Ted Kennedy's Sammy Sooser-Mike McGwire moment.
What's also cool is that it really looks like Harpermania and the first-place Nationals are really catching on in the District, even past what we baseball fans might have imagined. It's probably only a matter of time before Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are jockeying to be the first one to drop a TACQB! during a debate come fall.
