When the New York Mets take Citi Field for opening day batting practice on Thursday, they'll do so while wearing identical No. 8 Gary Carter jerseys. It is, of course, a cool tribute to the late Hall of Famer who died on Feb. 16 at the much too early age of 57. The team has been wearing special Gary Carter patches on their uniforms during spring training and will continue wearing them during the regular season.
We'll post more pictures of the jerseys as they come in as well as any other memorials the Mets may have in store. "The Kid" has already received a lot of honors since losing his brave fight with brain cancer, including a specially-lit Empire State Building, a heartfelt song from a special fan and all of the Montreal Canadiens wearing his number during a pregame skate.
Make sure you're ready for opening day ...
