Joey Votto’s new cereal is ‘basically Cheerios,’ according to Joey Votto

Baseball's newest $200 million man isn't yet ready to talk about his massive 10-year contract extension, but Joey Votto does want you to know about his new cereal. He appeared at Cincinnati-area grocery store on Tuesday to help promote them.

Our old pal Dan at OMGReds was there to document the entire event.

The morning sustenance is known as "VottOs" and carries a price of $2.99 — low enough for the Cincinnati Reds first baseman to afford roughly 84 million boxes. They're are available at Cincinnati-area Kroger stores or plbsports.com, the company behind vanity foodstuff phenomenons like Justin Verlander's Fastball Flakes and Dustin Pedroia's Black Bean Salsa. Additionally, the MLB trademark respectful box was designed by the renowned "celebrity sports artist" Kevin-John (the hyphen apparently marking no relation to either Elton or Tommy).

So, what do VottOs taste like?

"I grew up eating Cheerios, and this is basically Cheerios," Votto said via nkyspot.com.

Whoa! The slugger has to take it a bit easy there, no? I mean, he might have just picked $225 million of new grain but he also doesn't want to be sending any of those oats to General Mills in a copyright claim. Next time anyone asks, a better response might be that a bowlful of VottOs are as delicious as a homer that reaches the Ohio River.

Or at least tastier than whatever food project they end up making for Albert Pujols.

Yeah, one or the other.

Make sure you're ready for opening day ...
