Brian Cashman becomes a bleacher creature

With the Michael Pineda trade still a sore subject and the pitching rotation a mess, one would think that Brian Cashman would be avoiding situations that put him smack in the middle of the Yankees' most passionate fans.

Then again, the Yanks' general manager not only has a reputation for being a daredevil but for rubbing elbows with certain sectors of society that many others try to avoid.

So perhaps it comes as no surprise to learn that Cashman donned a disguise and did "roll call" with Yankee Stadium's "Bleacher Creatures" after receiving an impromptu invitation from leader Bald Vinny before Sunday's 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

From ESPN New York:

"(Bald Vinny)  said, 'Why don't you come on out?'" Cashman told ESPNNewYork.com after the Yankees' 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. "I said, 'You know what, maybe I will.' I've got my son. I've never experienced the roll call from the stands. I wanted my son to experience a big part of Yankee tradition now.

"So I said, 'I'll come out for the first inning, if I have time. If something doesn't come up.' So we were able to make it. We sat for the first defensive portion of the inning and then we left and we went back to the office."

Cashman reportedly wasn't recognized on his way to the section because he wore that visor/long hair combo that we've seen on him before. But once he got to the section, he was bombarded by cameras, autograph requests and, presumably, multiple offers to "hail a cab" for Freddy Garcia.
