"Mr. Jones and me/playin' with our Legos"
— Counting Crows (not really)
This awesome Chipper Jones Lego-like fellow is ready to take over third base for the Atlanta Braves now that the real deal has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the 2012 season. You're not really a ballplayer, you know, until you have an action figure made in your likeness. And Legos are hot these days, so the OYO Sportstoys company probably has a good thing going with their Major League Baseball building block figures, which are being marketed as toys and collectibles.
[E]ach OYO has bendable knees, rotating forearms, and the ability to hold a ball, bat, or glove.
Seems like fun. All of the players are made from the same template, so they all kind of look alike, except for uniform details and things like facial hair and skin tone. (Note the trademark half-goatee on Chipper. Like a modern-day Shaggy.)
Roy Halladay, conversely, gets the RoyBeard:
As does Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays. Joey BatsBeard!
Of course, when you're talking about a likely Hall of Famer such as Larry Wayne Jones, spending $12.99 retail isn't going to be much of an issue for a parent. And even in the cases of Freddie Freeman or Jason Heyward, your child (or your inner child) is going to have a lot of fun with his/her building block Atlanta Braves lineup. But how many are going to pop for a Craig Kimbrel figure after that September? Or ... let's pick on someone from another team ... Lou Marson? Lou Marson?!
OK, if you happen to be related to Lou Marson — or if you're a collector — you'll want one.
