Report: Gio Gonzalez passed post-Biogenesis drug test

Put another notch in the "Gio Gonzalez is clean" category, if you've got a scorecard going. Gonzalez told reporters on Friday that he passed a drug test administered to him two days after he was linked to the Biogenesis scandal.

Earlier this week, an ESPN report about Biogenesis said Gonzalez didn't purchase performance-enhancing drugs from the Miami-area clinic run by Anthony Bosch. A January report by the Miami New Times linked a handful of players to Biogenesis, Gonzalez included. He maintained his innocence then and continues to do so today.

Here's what Gonzalez said, per The Washington Post's Adam Kilgore:

“Like I said before, I’ve never taken performance-enhancing drugs and I never will,” Gonzalez said. “Two days after the story broke, I was tested for blood and urine, and both came out negative, like I expected. Throughout my entire career, it’s been like that. I look forward to handling this with MLB and putting this behind me and looking forward to the season.”

Gonzalez, who will pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, isn't in the clear yet. But with more Biogenesis names mounting by the week, there are plenty of players for MLB to investigate. You would figure one who has a clean drug test on record at the time of the scandal wouldn't be at the top of the league's list.

PEDs in baseball are a foggy world, where actual truth is as hard to come by as a 100 mph Barry Zito fastball. So, like every other case, we'll just have to wait and see.
