Zombies take over Petco Park for Walking Dead Night (Video)

We're closing in on July and the San Diego Padres are very much alive and well in the National League West. That's a bit of a surprise if you ask most experts, but their unexpected success wasn't enough to stop the Walking Dead from showing up and taking over at Petco Park on Thursday night.

And no, we're not talking about the presence of the last place Los Angeles Dodgers, which is the mandatory joke that needs to be told here. It was actually Walking Dead Night at the ballpark, which meant there were zombies galore, beginning with the game's ceremonial first pitch.

Not exactly Joe Mauer like instincts behind the plate there, which means that zombie should be thankful he wasn't catching Colin Kaepernick's first pitch. Dead or alive, that wouldn't have been pretty. I also enjoyed the end of the clip with the zombie reinforcements streaming out of the dugout as if a bench-clearing brawl was about to break out. If only they had put the pitcher in a Zack Greinke jersey, the scene would have been perfect.

All kidding aside, it looked like a pretty cool night at the ballpark. And if you're wondering where Walking Dead Night comes from, it's more than just an homage to the television show itself, it's also to promote the Walking Dead Escape, which is a themed obstacle course that will take over Petco Park for the second straight summer on July 19-20.

The event coincides with the San Diego Comic Con, which has grown into an incredibly huge annual event, so odds are it will be a big hit for the second straight year.
