Poor Casper Wells. He's like a foster puppy without a forever-home. He just keeps going from place to place, hoping someone will like him enough to keep him.
But Wells isn't a puppy. He's a ballplayer. And in April, he was a member of four different big-league organizations. If he keeps up that pace — oh, how we love to say things like that — Wells will play for 24 teams by the end of September. We'll go out on a limb and say that probably won't happen, but it sure would be fun if it did.
Here's his 2013 journey so far: He started with the Seattle Mariners, for whom in 2012 he played in 93 games. Before this season, he was designated for assignment and then claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. He was activated for three days, but didn't play, before being DFA'd again. This time, he was traded to the Oakland Athletics, a team that surely could find use for an outcast. Nope. He played three games with the A's before another DFA and another trade, this time to the Chicago White Sox.
The good news is he's been with the White Sox since Monday and he's still there. He's even played in two games. So far this season, Wells has appeared in five games with nine at-bats and zero hits. Prior to all this, Wells, 28, came up through the Detroit Tigers organization. He was traded to Seattle in the 2011 Doug Fister deal.
All that brings us to: The Casper Wells Bingo card. If he can't win a starting job somewhere, maybe he can make Stewies shout "BINGO!" with his baseball couch-surfing ways. Keep this handy all year, and revisit it if/when Wells moves again.
