Opening day happened to fall on April Fool's Day this year, and you had to wonder if baseball would get in on the hi-jinks. The closest thing we've seen so far? A rosin bag exploding on Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher A.J. Burnett during Monday's game. Burnett grabbed the bag while circling the mound, tapped it against himself and then was surprised by a white cloud.
We are thankful to @Thankphil for capturing:

Was it really an April Fool's joke? Don't know yet. It would be a great one, if it were. Given Burnett's history of pie-ing his teammates, it might be payback. Or maybe those wacky Baseball Gods were having a little fun on April Fool's/Opening Day.

Otherwise, Burnett was full of whiffs. He had 10 strikeouts Monday against the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs, however, were leading 3-0 when Burnett was pulled after 5 2/3 innings.
