Challenge answered: Your worst fantasy baseball trades confessed

Big League Stew readers have made their fair share of shake-your-head worthy fantasy baseball trades. We're not judging. We've done it too. So have the real GMs.

As you might recall, last week we asked you all to share your worst fantasy baseball trades. Some of your confessions shocked even us — for instance, trading for a guy who died soon after. And, of course, dozens of people recounted giving up Mike Trout far too early and for not nearly enough.

Fantasy baseball season is upon again — remember Yahoo! leagues are open, as are pro leagues; the mobile apps for iPhone and Android are out too.

So while you get ready for your drafts, here are some of the worst fantasy baseball trades submitted to the Stew. Try to learn from other peoples' mistakes.

FROM THE COMMENTS:
"I traded Carlos Gonzalez and Mike Trout for Adrian Gonzalez, Jerry Sands, and Juan Rivera" — Domination

"last year i traded trout straight up for Desmond Jennings, it was only a week after he got pulled up and started killing the ball but still....whack! now im looking to draft him first when i could of kept him since i drafted him last season in the last round...makes it even worse." — Kyle

"Among my worst trades: Roger Clemens for Jesus Sanchez in 1998, & before that, dealing with the same owner, Chipper Jones & Ricky Bottalico for Mo Vaughn (after Chip's '95 breakout). Later bad deals included trading Jose Reyes, Dustin Pedroia, & Jay Bruce in consecutive years ('06-'08) for pennies on the dollar." — Disco

"2011 I traded a struggling Dan Uggla for Roy Oswalt at the end of June. Oswalt pitched one start, it was a one inning game before he left with a back injury, then immediately started telling everyone he may just retire. A week later Dan Uggla started his 33 game hitting streak, going something like .375 with 15HRs over the next 2 months." — Martain

"In 2005, Yahoo and the S.F. Giants teamed up to offer a paid front office internship to the winner of a fantasy baseball league. i was in that contest. Roy Halladay had broken his leg, but was scheduled to return in 7 days. I traded for him - the next day they shut him down for the season - and I finished in second place." — Gmislak

"Verlander for Chris Young. Still hurts." — J.D.

"In a deep dynasty league after his solid 2008 year, I traded for Chris Davis. I gave up Felix Hernandez. I still haven't been able to totally get over it. Does anyone know of a support group?" — Chad

"I traded Jose Reyes a month into his breakout season for Gary Sheffield. Why? Cuz I thought Jose Reyes wasn't a sexy superstar name." — Joe

"I am responsible for two of the trades posted (Verlander for Corpas and Felix for Chris Davis). I feel like a heel. As for my horror story, during spring training in 2009 I traded Robinson Cano (along with Chris Young the pitcher) in exchange for Alexei Ramirez and Nick Swisher. 10-team keeper league. Cano has been a keeper for the other guy ever since." — Ricardo

"On 4/15/2004, I traded Lance Berkman for Bobby Kielty and Nick Johnson. In a keeper league. Kielty: 278 PA, .214/.321/.370, 29R, 7HR, 31 RBI, 1 SB
Johnson: 295 PA, .251/.359/.398, 35R, 7HR, 33 RBI, 6SB
Berkman: 687 PA, .316/.450/.566, 104R, 30HR, 106 RBI, 9SB" — Ryan T.

FROM FACEBOOK:

"Right before the season started in 2009, I traded Ryan Howard and Chris Carpenter for ARod and Brandon Webb. Webb got hurt in the first game and was out the rest of the year and ARod had an ok year with 30HR and 100 RBI. Howard meanwhile had 45 HR and 141 RBI and Carpenter was 17-4 with a 2.24 ERA. Whoops." — Rob Jones

"I traded granderson last year for werth. i really wanted werth. before he broke his wrist. OUCH." — Honda Lolliday

This, we figure, is the best trade to end with. Thanks, everyone, for sharing your pain.

"Last season I was loaded with outfielders but when Mike Trout first came up I picked him up anyway. Less than a month later, before Trout started his epic tear on his way to a historic rookie season, my friend proposed a deal: being a huge Gnats fan, she really badly wanted Melky Cabrera to complete her collection of Jints on her roster, plus Trout because she needed more outfield help and at the time, he was just a bench player for me. In return she would give me Michael Young (I needed a utility player), Brandon Beachy (who was still healthy and leading the league in ERA), and, here's the ironic kicker- some Vicodin for my back pain. I could definitely have use some harder drugs had I known what kind of season Trout was in for and that Beachy would go down with injuries. At least the Milkman went down with some different kind of drugs, but still, that trade haunts me to no end. At least the Vicodin wasn't bunk." — David Joo Yoo
