Buster Posey agrees to a new nine-year, $167 million contract with Giants

Sorry, Justin Verlander. Your contract extension is already old news.

The San Francisco Giants — them again! — and catcher Buster Posey agreed to a new 9-year contract on Friday worth $167 million that'll keep Posey in a Giants uniform until 2021. There's a $22 million option for 2022.

It's not the full 10-year contract that some were expecting, but it's still likely to keep Posey, 26, in a Giants uniform for life. It's a uniform he's done quite well in too — with two World Series rings and an MVP award in his first three seasons.

Here's ace Giants beat guy Andrew Baggarly breaking down the cash:

Posey's $167 million includes the $8 million he was already making this year. So it's $159 million in new money. And option for 2022.

Posey breakdown starting in 2014: 12.5M, 16.5M, 20M, then 21.4M for each of next five years. — Andrew Baggarly (@CSNBaggs) March 29, 2013

Posey's contract also has a full no-trade clause, according to Baggarly. From a Giants perspective, this move is reminiscent of last season, when they signed Matt Cain to a $127.5 million extension days before the season began.
