Chef Pujols: Albert’s wife Deidre launches cookware line

With her husband Albert Pujols under contract until at least 2021 and ensconced in the Los Angeles Angels lineup, Deidre Pujols apparently decided now was the time to make a name for herself in business. As the Hall of Very Good has noted, she has expanded what was a hobby into a full-fledged pots-and-pans emporium with profits, she says, going to less-fortunate families. Presenting, the Pujols Kitchen line of cookware:

When you use Pujols Kitchen cookware, you not only make your own traditions more delicious and memorable, you also make it possible for those less fortunate to create traditions of their own.

Pujols Kitchen cookware delivers the perfect balance of gourmet performance and practicality, freeing your inner chef to achieve maximum culinary creativity.

Each piece in every set has been ergonomically engineered to be more comfortable than any cookware you’ve used before. Regardless of your skill level, your cooking won’t just taste better…it will feel better.

But improving your cooking experience is just the beginning. Profits from cookware sales are donated to families in poverty around the globe, providing them with cookware and non-perishable food.

The charity is a neat aspect of the project, and not unexpected, given the Pujolses reputation.

But what about the cookware? Well, you can buy directly from Pujols Kitchen, which offers a 10-piece stainless steel cookware set for $279.99, seemingly a competitive price. My favorite item not in the set might be the smiling apron for $22.99. And the Pujols Kitchen lunch boxes ($19.99) are likely to be good Albert memorabilia pieces in the future. Also, this could lead to giving Albert another nickname he doesn't want: "The Big Spatula."

But this is about Deidre Pujols. Her husband's last name will get people in the door, but it's not going to work in the long term if the product doesn't impress. Her website includes video of the cookware in action and recipes with Dominican influences. So you don't even have to buy to get something out of this project. But here's hoping her business venture, along with what are likely good intentions, is a success.
