Brewers reveal finalists for uniform design contest

A couple months ago we told you about the cool 'Design A Youniform Contest' the Milwaukee Brewers were running that allows baseball fans to show their creative and design a new alternate uniform for them to wear for their March 22 Catcus League game against the Chicago Cubs. As a part of the contest, the winner will receive a trip to see the selected game, including airfare for two, tickets to the game to see the uniform "come to life," and a cash prize for hotel and transportation.

On Tuesday, the names of the three finalists and uniform designs were revealed by the Brewers, and I must say the designs and combinations they selected are interesting, That said, I can't help but look through the complete gallery of entries to see if they left something better on the drawing board.

You can head over to the Brewers official website to check the finalists out for yourself and vote for your favorite, but of the three, I think I'd have cast my vote for the design created by Ron Verrecchio of Catonsville, Md.

There are three pretty big reasons why Verrecchio's stands out as my favorite of the bunch.

First, I like the way he mixed a little old with something new by using the old school cap design and glove logo. That should have almost been required for the contest just to give that classic feel while updating the rest of the uniform. It's simple and effective.

Second, he’s the only one of the three finalists who designed the uniform right down to the long socks. Again, that should have been required, and I applaud that detail.

And finally, he was confident enough to attach his own name and favorite number to the uniform. If you design it and believe it in, then own it completely. That's exactly what Ron Verrecchio did.

The other two finalists aren’t bad either, but I'm sticking by my choice while still sifting through the gallery to see which designs missed the cut. Honestly, I'm digging their choices the more I look, so hats off to them.

By the way, voting for the contest ends on Jan 22. with the winner being announced on Jan. 27. Go cast your vote now or leave your opinion in the comments.
