New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey sat down with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show on Tuesday night and the comedian's first question was a good one: "How can the Mets screw this up?"
The 2012 NL Cy Young winner deftly avoided that land mine, but what followed was a solid six minutes of Dickey talking baseball with one of the city's biggest Mets fans.
Here are a few highlights:
On speculation he could be traded: "I'm hoping to be here man. I love it here ... (But) Sandy Alderson has a job to do. He's paid to make the Mets better. I have to try and be as professional as I can and try to understand that.
On the possibility of moving his family: "It's hard. Baseball in general is so dysfunctional as a lifestyle. You're playing 162 games in 183 days, not to mention spring training is another 40 days. So the thought of taking your family to Toronto or LA, that takes a lot of thought power."
On his recent success after a lot of career struggles: "My career trajectory has been almost knuckleballish. But it's nice to be at a peak, I can tell you that."
