Brandon Crawford holds a spot in the San Francisco Giants' lineup because of his defensive value at shortstop. After a slow start to the season, he's made just one error in the past 54 games — a mark that will always be welcomed by the great rotation in front of him.
Crawford has been so good with the glove lately that he's even erasing errors for his teammates. Watch what happens as third baseman Pablo Sandoval loses a pop foul in the lights during the first inning of San Francisco's 3-2 win over the Houston Astros:
Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area has a great piece detailing the scene in the postgame clubhouse. Sandoval was checking out the replay on his phone and "laughing giddily" while other players were fielding suggestions from reporters that Kung Fu Panda could be Kerri Walsh Jennings' new volleyball partner with the way he "set" the play.
"Hmmm," said Matt Cain. "Probably not too much beach volleyball in Pablo's future."
The Giants were able to talk and laugh and have fun with the play because they lodged a ninth-inning comeback to escape an embarrassing defeat to the worst team in the majors. I'm glad they did, because it's cool to see they experienced the same kind of feelings about the play as we did at home.
