This should be fun: Jayson Werth and the Washington Nationals are playing a weekend series in Philadelphia starting tonight. The Nats are a whopping 19 1/2 games ahead of the Phillies in the NL East standings, which means Werth will finally have some serious ammo — $126 million aside — to use against the Phillies fans who treat him not-ah-so-nice.
Werth is hitting .373/.455/.522 with 11 runs and eight doubles since returning from his wrist injury on Aug. 2. That game was also against Philadelphia, though it took place in Washington and in front of fewer Phillies fans who saw him break his left wrist on May 6. With Bryce Harper mired in a second-half slump, the Nats are going to need Werth to keep up his production if Washington wants to wrap up a division title that would allow them to get their Stephen Strasburg-less rotation aligned just right for any potential postseason series.
