Cubs pitcher Casey Coleman leaves game after being hit with shattered bat (Video)

The bats of the Chicago White Sox hurt the crosstown Cubs during Wednesday night's 7-0 win, both on the scoreboard and in quite literal fashion. Watch as Eduardo Escobar's swing turns into a shattered projectile that sends Cubs pitcher Casey Coleman to the ground in pain:

From the Chicago Tribune:

"I didn't see it until it actually hit me," Coleman said. "It's always scary when something like that comes (at you), but I got lucky. It was just the barrel that hit me in the knuckles. It's scary when you don't see it and all of a sudden it gets you."

Escobar's grounder went for the final out of the inning so Coleman was able to walk to the dugout on his own. He was pulled for precautionary measures, though, and X-rays of his right hand fortunately showed up negative.

In fact, when it comes to the Cubs and broken bats, Coleman got off lucky. You might remember that ex-Cub Tyler Colvin had a bat shard puncture his chest back in 2010.
