Perhaps overshadowed by the recent signing of Roy Oswalt and the baseball game played to a football score by the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers, a couple got married at Rangers Ballpark on Tuesday.
Vows were exchanged during batting practice — because Josh Hamilton repeatedly going yard just isn't enough to entertain anymore — and the couple later was interviewed on Fox Sports Southwest by reporter Jim Knox. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Kunz, DDS!:
Here's the amusing exchange:
(The kiss isn't amusing. The interview was, though.)
Jim Knox: ... They come all the way from Beaumont! Why here at the ballpark, Greg?
Dr. Greg: I tell you, Jim, I love the Rangers, I love Nolan Ryan — he's been a hero of mine since I was a young child — and it's such an honor to be married out here.
Jim: All right, here's the bag, here's the shirt, congratulations. Any big plans after the game?
Dr. Greg: Jim, I can't tell you anything. But I'll give you a little hint. (He kisses the bride, the former Julie Maldonado, hard.)
Jim: There we go! All right, big guy! Congratulations! What a day! And you're still in the tuxedo, the penguin suit.
Dr. Greg: Go Rangers!
"The bag and shirt" hand-off seems a bit underwhelming given that the couple was getting married, but one "Fan of the Game" isn't more important than any other. Also, what must the lady on the right be thinking? She's definitely a mother of someone in the bridal party.
(Speaking of football, there's a crossover term — "Out-kicking your coverage" — related to that sport and marrying a woman who is out of your league in the looks department. Not that Dr. Kunz is bad-looking by any stretch. He's just very ... Boog Powell. He looks like guy who owns a bar. A smart person once told me that any guy who runs a bar should be at least 6-foot-2 and weigh 280, along with being red-faced and barrel-chested.)
Love baseball? Even like it a little?
