OK, I take it all back. When I called Bert Blyleven's singing animal puppet commercial the best baseball ad we'd see all season, I was unaware that a Big Lebowski-themed adfrom the Twins was also out on the airwaves. It features former Twinkie Kent Hrbek — whose aggression toward Ron Gant did stand in 1991 — as a Zubaz-wearing Dude.
Various members of the Twins, meanwhile, serve as extras in the bowling-themed ad.
You can imagine where it goes from here:
Despite this commercial combining two of my favorite things, I do have a few minor quibbles. For one, it needed a few more Lebowski references ("Fifty-one seasons of beautiful tradition from Rod Carew to Jason Marquis"). For another, they just passed up a perfectly good opportunity to dress Joe Mauer in Jesus Quintana's purple jumpsuit.
Still, how can I complain that much? When you take Bert's commercial and Joe Mauer's "sorta deep thoughts" campaign and now this, it's enough to make the Twins honorary members of the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers. Mark it eight, Dude.
