Razors raise cancer awareness in Rays camp as Maddon and Co. go bald

It's cool that the Tampa Bay Rays transformed their spring training camp into the opening scene of Full Metal Jacket, using their latest fashion statement to turn players into the next coming of Private Cowboy and Private Joker.

It's even cooler that the mass shaving is all for a good cause. As has been reported the last few weeks, Rays manager Joe Maddon and his charges are supporting Vincent Lecavalier's Cut for a Cure campaign by going bald for the start of the season. The time to put up or shut up came on Thursday morning with even coach Don Zimmer symbolically sitting in the chair and declaring that things couldn't get any worse for his follically-challenged dome.

DRays Bay had a list of the participating players, but it's possible that other succumbed to peer pressure and jumped in the chair at the last minute. Our PR pal Jonathan Gantt did.

At any rate, it's awesome that Maddon is supporting such a great cause and the effort is well worth considering making a donation in the Rays' noggins.
