Fashion Ump: The Braves will don a cool cream-colored alternate jersey in 2012

Though the Atlanta Braves might have had different ideas for an unveiling, OnTheField.com screwed the pooch over the weekend by posting the team's new alternate jerseys for sale. The link no longer works, but the cat's out of the proverbial equipment bag now that @ATL3124 and SportsLogos brought the premature posting to everyone's attention.

Luckily for the Braves, the new cream-colored tops are receiving a lot more positive attention than the Miami Marlins did when their rainbow monstrosities leaked earlier this offseason.

And rightfully so, because they are certainly pleasing to the eye:

Fashion Ump is a fan of these throwbacks because they really do look like they were taken straight off a Henry Aaron baseball card and placed into Freddie Freeman's locker. The strange part about that is that these aren't throwbacks in the truest sense of the term; the Braves have never worn a jersey that looked exactly like this.

What also makes these uniforms attractive is that they're not a huge departure from what they wear now. Chris Creamer of Sports Logos notes the difference between this jersey and the regular home jersey that the Braves have been wearing since the early '90s:

• the shade of white
• the "Braves" script across the front is lacking the tomahawk,
• there is a number on the front
• navy blue piping down the front of the jersey
• a new sleeve patch which appears to be two crossed tomahawks on a blue circle with "Atlanta Braves 1876″ written inside

Fashion Ump ruling: We're never huge fans of any type of piping, so that's the one bone we'd pick with this new look. But going old-school with the cream more than makes up for it. Let's call it a standup double.

What do you think?
